The “Best Staffing Firms to Work For” program has five categories in North America based on company size — ranging from the smallest category size of 10 to 20 internal employees to a category for 501-plus internal employees. There are two categories in the UK and one category in Ireland.

Firms that were placed in the top quartile of responses for a category are considered winners.

Internal employees at each participating firm are asked to complete an approximately 40-question online survey that measures six key engagement categories focusing on items including communication and resources, individual needs, manager effectiveness, personal engagement, team dynamics and trust in leadership.

In order to gather statistically sound results, participating companies must have reached a minimum level of employee participation, based on total number of employees. Responses from each question of each completed survey were compiled and evaluated. Companies in each size category were ranked according to their overall composite score. Companies with more than 50 employees receive a small credit for exceeding their response rate beyond their minimum goal, which goes into their overall score for ranking. Winners are chosen based entirely on the survey results.

In addition, the “Best Staffing Firms to Temp For” contest (for external workers) comprises one category. At this time, it is only offered in the US. Participating firms are ranked based on their Net Promoter Score, which was calculated based on temps’ responses to questions such as how likely it is they would recommend this staffing firm to a friend.

The nomination process for the 2021 North America competition has closed. The window for the 2021 UK and Ireland process will open in the summer.
