Making a Difference

On a mission to enhance life for its people

With a perceptible emphasis on strengthening its candidate and customer experience since its founding in 1994, Roth Staffing Cos. is recognized for the 13th year in a row as one of SIA’s Best Staffing Firms to Work For. Headquartered in Orange, California, Roth is committed to placing world-class talent through all its 100-plus locations. The privately owned firm specializes in placing temporary, temp-to-hire, contract and direct hire roles across dozens of verticals, including office and administration (Ultimate Staffing Services); IT and technology (Ledgent Technology); finance and accounting (Ledgent Finance & Accounting); legal professionals, attorneys and litigation support (Adams & Martin Group); and MSP, RPO, VMS, 1099, SOW and freelance talent management workforce solutions (About Talent). The organization continues its unwavering focus on making life better for not only its customers and candidates but its more than 700 internal employees as well.

Exemplary Culture

It is no secret that Roth Staffing has vigorously worked to create a one-of-a-kind culture for its staff and ambassadors — the company’s preferred term for the employees they place on assignment. As a leader at Roth for more than 13 years, Senior VP Kristi Kennedy believes that its culture is rooted within its mission. “We want every employee to wake up on Monday morning and believe that they are not only in the perfect job to care for their families but also to make a difference in their communities,” she says.

Roth’s approach caught major buzz within the ecosystem in 2022. “Over the last year especially, the talent pool has opened for us, and I believe it’s because the chatter around our culture is out there. People want to come work for us and are seeking us out,” Kennedy acknowledges.

The company’s culture of taking care of its own was evident right from the start for Marketing Coordinator Jana Thurston, who joined Roth in early 2022. “The culture aligned with what I was looking for but didn’t think existed within a company,” she explains. “Every day, I am amazed at the incentives and care Roth has for its coworkers. It’s genuine, and I don’t foresee that changing.”

Regional VP James Sense, a seven-year veteran at the company, agrees that Roth makes life better for its staff by emphasizing transparency in the workplace. “Open communication and willingness to try new things enhance our organization,” he says. “Our coworkers have trust within each other to do the right thing.”

The willingness to communicate openly also goes both ways. “Our company has done a really great job at listening to our coworkers,” Sense states. For example, the company hosts weekly, all-company town halls where they discuss topics and trainings. These meetings offer Roth’s employees support, build trust and help create a collective sense of purpose within the organization, Sense explains.

Thurston agrees, saying senior leadership is not just willing but excited to listen to employees’ ideas — and implement them as well. “If they find value in it, there is no reason to not create new initiatives off of those objectives.”

Flexibility and Accountability

As the world reaches a new normal after the pandemic, many companies are focusing on bringing employees back to the office either full time or on hybrid schedules. Roth, meanwhile, has continued to prioritize remote work as an ongoing initiative, but more importantly, it offers its staff the opportunity to be involved in that change by creating internal surveys to ensure that employees are heard and can make actionable changes based on their engagement. Reaching the highest engagement scores in their company’s history post Covid, Roth is actively working to meet employees’ needs.

The company has moved to a highly flexible and accountable work environment, which enables its staff to manage their own workload, schedule and activities, Kennedy says. “Our senior leadership team has worked hard over the years to provide innovations to our field coworkers to allow them to be more efficient and effective in their roles.”

Adapting to a completely remote environment has given Roth employees the opportunity to collaborate in new, exciting ways. According to Thurston, virtual work has been a joy in her day to day. “Not a day goes by that I don’t feel involved with my team or the organization,” she explains. “I never feel alone, even though I’m remote, and I still get to work with everyone in the company.” Even so, Thurston is excited to meet with her coworkers in person this year through Roth’s community outreach program, Food for Thought. The program offers employees the opportunity to volunteer together at their local food bank through company-paid volunteer hours. “Food for Thought sparked something in us to see how everyone can come together for the greater good in their own communities through a companywide initiative,” Thurston says. “I’m excited to see similar initiatives created this year.”

More Than an Accolade

Sense believes that Roth’s numerous Best Staffing Firm to Work For awards stem from the company’s commitment to being a place that creates significant connections in a healthy environment. “Whether it’s changing our technology or revamping our onboarding process, we are evaluating how we generate meaningful relationships in a remote world today. Whether it’s engaging more work-life balance or our giving our people the tools to be successful, we want to have fun with what we do.”

For Roth, being a Best Staffing Firm to Work For is more than an accolade — it is a promise to its people. As Kennedy sums up perfectly, the honor “not only validates that we are succeeding in our mission but makes our goal of making a difference realized.”
